For Reals. The Kids Can Play.

Elias Pettersson rescued a victory for the Vancouver Canucks with his first NHL hat trick as the Canucks beat the Ottawa Senators 4-3 Wednesday despite blowing a two-goal lead in the final half of the third period. Here are some takeaways from the game.

We need to talk about Brock Boeser's body. But it's not what you think!

Last season, Boeser scored just 16 goals. It’s not that he had a bad season exactly — he was still a first-line forward on one of the best lines in the NHL — but it was a far cry from the buzz he created as a rookie.

The Vancouver Canucks' second scrimmage of their training camp was a lot more spirited than the first. It seems clear that everyone on the team is well aware that the season starts in just a few days and the battles were a little more fierce. The game itself ended 1-1 in regulation, as goaltenders Thatcher Demko and Braden Holtby were also a little more locked-in.

The spirited affair got a little too spirited at one point, as two teammates dropped the gloves and did a little knuckle-chucking in the third period.

Tyler Motte and Adam Gaudette were chasing down a loose puck when Motte wrapped up Gaudette with his stick and hauled him dangerously to the ice. It was arguably a slewfoot, one of the more d…

Canucks squander vintage Holtby start with lackluster performance

The Canucks lost vital ground in the NHL standings when they were beaten 2-1 Monday by the Senators. But Holtby, the veteran goalie who has emerged from the team’s COVID crisis in vintage form, was still Vancouver’s best player. And second place wasn’t close.
