Maple Leafs' Joe Thornton out at least four weeks with rib fracture

Joe Thornton would leave the game in pain after and awkward hit.

Toronto Maple Leafs veteran forward Joe Thornton will be sidelined at least four weeks with a rib fracture, coach Sheldon Keefe told reporters Friday.

The Leafs also placed the veteran pivot on their LTIR.

Thornton left Wednesday's game vs. the Edmonton Oilers early in the third period after taking an awkward hit along the boards.

The 41-year-old Thornton has one goal and one assist through five games with the Maple Leafs this season, his first with the club after spending the past 15 with the San Jose Sharks.
