Tampa Bay Lightning captain Steven Stamkos has been placed on long-term injured reserve with a lower-body injury, the team announced Friday.

The LTIR placement is retroactive to April 9 and he will miss at least 10 games or 24 days of action.

Stamkos was injured in April 8's game against the Columbus Blue Jackets and limped to the locker room during the third period. It is unclear how he was injured.

The 31-year-old has 17 goals and 34 points in 38 games this season.
