Jets’ Dustin Byfuglien suffers apparent leg injury vs. Wild

Dustin Byfuglien heads to the locker room with a lower body injury after a collision with Luke Kunin. Byfuglien had to be helped off the ice afterwards.

Winnipeg Jets defenceman Dustin Byfuglien left Saturday’s loss to the Minnesota Wild with an apparent leg injury, and did not return.

Midway through the third period, the defenceman collided awkwardly with Wild forward Luke Kunin when he attempted to retrieve the puck against the Jets’ end boards. Byfuglien appeared to be in immediate discomfort, doing his best to avoid putting weight on his left leg. Play was stopped, as the Jets had possession of the puck, and Byfuglien was helped off the ice by teammates and a trainer. Replay showed Kunin make contact with his left leg around the knee area.

The Jets lost the game 3-1, with Byfuglien assisting on Winnipeg’s lone goal. He also had three shots on goal in the loss.

After the game head coach Paul Maurice didn’t have an update on Byfuglien’s injury. The Jets next play Monday night against the Edmonton Oilers.
