The San Jose Sharks are bringing back a familiar face.

Bob Boughner, who was an assistant coach with the Sharks from 2015-17, is returning to the role. Boughner was the head coach of the Florida Panthers for the last two seasons, but was fired in April after missing the playoffs in both campaigns.

The Sharks also announced that Rob Zettler, who took over from Boughner when he left for the Panthers, would not be returning to the bench next season.

Boughner posted an 80-62-22 record in his two seasons with the Panthers. Before joining the Sharks in 2015, he was the head coach of the OHL’s Windsor Spitfires and led that team to back-to-back Memorial Cup wins in 2009 and 2010. He also served as an assistant coach with the Columbus Blue Jackets in the 2010-11 season.
