CALGARY -- The Nashville Predators defeated the Calgary Flames 5-3 at Scotiabank Saddledome on Friday but lost goaltender Pekka Rinne to injury.

Rinne collided with forward Kevin Fiala when Calgary's Sam Bennett tied the game 3-3 at 2:20 of the third period. Rinne remained in the game but left at 5:09 and was replaced by Juuse Saros, who made nine saves.
"There's a lot of confidence in both goaltenders, but that's a tough situation," Predators coach Peter Laviolette said. "That's the life of a goaltender. When you aren't starting you have to be ready at any moment. He came in and did his job really well."
Laviolette did not have an update on Rinne.
"I can't comment on anything because I don't know anything yet," he said.

NSH@CGY: Rinaldo scores on rush, puts Predators ahead

Fiala and Filip Forsberg each had a goal and an assist, and Ryan Johansen, Craig Smith and Zac Rinaldo scored for Nashville (6-1-0), which won its fourth straight. The Predators, who haven't lost since Oct. 9, 3-0 to the Flames, have at least six wins through their first seven games in a season for the third time in their history (7-0-0 in 2005-06, 6-1-0 in 2015-16).
"We're really confident," Rinaldo said. "We have that swagger. We have attitude every single game. We bring speed every single game. But the thing about this group is we don't get comfortable. We know every game is going to be a hard-working game. We prepare for hard work every game. Confidence, but not comfortable."
Elias Lindholm and Matthew Tkachuk scored, and Mike Smith made 26 saves for the Flames (4-3-0), who had won two in a row.
"It was a tough game, 3-3 there, and they got a chance to score and that was the difference," Calgary captain Mark Giordano said.
Rinaldo's shot went past Smith's blocker on a 2-on-1 at 6:31 of the third period to put Nashville up 4-3. It was his first goal for the Predators since signing as a free agent July 2.
"The bench was pumped up," Laviolette said. "Just a great, great play. We ended up catching numbers going the other way. He made the right decision, made a great shot. It turned out to be the game-winner. It was a big goal."
Forsberg scored into an empty net with 32 seconds remaining to make it 5-3.
Johansen scored 51 seconds into the first period to put Nashville up 1-0. He has six points (two goals, four assists) during a four-game point streak.
"We're feeling good, for sure," Johansen said. "We understand it's a long season and there's a big process but we're just going to keep the peddle down and keep continuing to get better."

Lindholm tied it 1-1 on Calgary's second shot at 18:43. Lindholm has eight points (five goals, three assists) in his past six games.
Smith scored on a pass from Kyle Turris 4:09 into the second to put Nashville up 2-1, and Lindholm's shot on the power play deflected off Tkachuk's skate to tie the game 2-2 at 12:51.
Fiala scored on the power play to give the Predators a 3-2 lead at 14:23.
"Every time it looked like we were going to take a step and get some momentum, we gave it back," Flames coach Bill Peters said.

They said it

"We did some good things, they did some good things. Overall it was a tie game there and we needed a big play there. It came from a guy who probably deserves it the most at that time. We're pumped for [Zac Rinaldo] to get on the board there with our club and make a huge play like that." -- Predators forward Ryan Johansen

NSH@CGY: Johansen beats Smith in opening minute

"They're a good team. They played patient. When they didn't have a sustained forecheck, they sat back in the neutral zone and waited for us to make a mistake." -- Flames defenseman Mark Giordano
