Jets’ Dustin Byfuglien to return from injury vs. Canadiens

Dustin Byfuglien heads to the locker room with a lower body injury after a collision with Luke Kunin. Byfuglien had to be helped off the ice afterwards.

The Winnipeg Jets will get a big boost to their lineup when they take on the Montreal Canadiens on Thursday.

Dustin Byfuglien, who has been out with a lower-body injury since the end of December, will return to the blue line for Winnipeg.

“It’s never easy to sit and watch the team,” Byfuglien said after practice on Wednesday. “I’m excited to just get back with the boys.”

Byfuglien suffered the lower-body injury in a collision with Minnesota Wild forward Luke Kunin on Dec. 29. The 33-year-old had to be helped off the ice and didn’t return to the game.

In 32 games this season, Byfuglien has four goals and 29 points.

Head coach Paul Maurice added that defenceman Josh Morrissey is questionable for the game against Montreal. Morrissey suffered a lower-body injury after he blocked a shot while killing a penalty against the San Jose Sharks on Tuesday.

Morrissey leads all Jets defencemen with six goals and has 29 points in 51 games.
