Drew Mottinger maintains a passionate DIY ethos, not unlike other successful LA-based artists such as Ariel Pink and Sky Ferreira. He recorded the entire album live in front of an audience at LA's Sound Factory to capture a sense of spontaneity that would be lost in mixing. He then hired Grammy award winning producer Greg Fidelman (Metallica, Red Hot Chili Peppers) to mix the record because he wanted it "to sound compressed and intense."
