Avalanche’s Mikko Rantanen suffers apparent ankle injury vs. Blues

Mikko Rantanen would head to the locker room after appearing to twist his ankle on the ice.

Colorado Avalanche forward Mikko Rantanen was forced to leave Monday’s game against the St. Louis Blues in the second period with an apparent ankle injury.

The Avalanche said Rantanen would not return to the game because of a lower-body injury.

Rantanen was starting to skate out of the defensive zone when his left skate got caught in the ice turning his left foot sideways. The 22-year-old was in discomfort as he left the ice and went straight to the dressing room.

In nine games this season, Rantanen has five goals and 12 points after recording an assist on Nathan Mackinnon’s goal on the power play in the first period.

The Finnish forward signed a six-year contract this past off-season worth $9.25 million a season.
